Big Ten Network Sucks

This will be the third weekend in a row where the Badgers have been on the Big Ten Network, and I won’t be able to watch the game. BOLLOCKS! I’ve gone from being pissed to very disappointed. I’ve been become such a huge fan over the years that I’m starting to wonder if it’s time to find another team to follow. The fans have been left out to dry by the Big Ten Network and companies like Charter, and I don’t know about other fans, but I won’t be quick to forgive if and when I ever get the BTN. Anyone selling BTN sucks t-shirts? I want one!

Drive-By Truckers Unplugged Disappointing

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

The Drive-By Truckers are one of my favorite bands, but I was a pretty disappointed with their show Saturday in Madison, WI. First of all, they kind of just strolled out on stage like one of the roadies. I don’t even think the crowd noticed them at first. I was just kind of waiting for the show, and then I was like, “oh, that’s Patterson and Cooley”. They just walked out and sat down and started tuning their acoustics while there was still music playing through the PA system. It was like they didn’t even want to be there.

The show wasn’t labeled as an acoustic show, so I figured they’d start out the show acoustic and then rock out a little later. I was wrong. They sat down and put a very enthusiastic DBT crowd to sleep. I mean, everyone still enjoyed it, but I think everyone expected to see DBT, not DBT unplugged.

I left after the first encore song, but at that point they hadn’t played a single song off of their new album, and I was starting to hear comments about that from fans. I was surprised to hear a lot of material from Pizza Deliverance.

Anyway, I hope this isn’t the new post-Isbell Truckers, because I wasn’t impressed. I can’t wait for Jason Isbell to come back through town.

Paper-version of Post is DOA

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Have you seen those empty Post paper stands? Well, they’re going to remain empty. I recently found out from a friend of mine at Capital Newspapers that the paper version of Post is done, and has been for many months. They supposedly took a break from the paper version when the college kids left town, but I think it was just a quiet way of ending the inevitable.

The idea of republishing blogs in a paper version was just foolish. Why have a publication that republishes blogs written by amateurs? They republished articles that were already published on the web, sometimes over a month out. It just didn’t make any sense, and their advertisers weren’t buying it.

Marcus King & Thee Royalty

Marcus King & Thee Royalty

I recently just joined a new band called Marcus King & Thee Royalty. It’s the first cover band I’ve played with in many, many years, but get this, it’s 60’s and 70’s funk/soul band. I wasn’t playing with anyone, so how could I say no?

The band consists of 10 people. Two members from the Kissers, Neil “Motherfucking” Diamond, Jessica Lee, guitarist from the Bar Tabbies, three horn players, and another backup singer….and of course, myself.

Our first show is November 14th at Cafe Montmartre. We’ll be player there every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, with a few other gigs thrown in. We also have a show coming up at the High Noon on November 21st.

The NEW Argus has some tasty food

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

I’ve always liked the Argus, mainly because it never got too busy and I could play some music, but the new Argus is quite different. The place was slow when we got there, but quickly got real busy. The old Argus seemed to be full of power-drinkers, the new Argus seems to have a more diverse crowd. I heard the downstairs is pretty cool now, but unfortunately I didn’t make it down there, but it sounded like there was a lot of people down there. Hopefully the still have cheap pool.

We were all hungry in the group I was with, so we ordered some food. They have a ginormous list of sandwiches. My girlfriend made me try this pesto sandwich, and let me just say, it was to die for! One of my other friends got some sort of steak sandwich which seemed to be dripping with juices. He seemed pleased, and by just the look of it, that’s what I’m getting the next time.

The only bad things I have say is the bar service was pretty slow. The bartender made some good drinks, but he was super-slow. The crazy short lady with brown hair is, well, kind of nutty! She’s a nice person, but her mind seems to be going a mile a minute. I give her credit for trying, but it’s the not the kind of person you want taking care of customers.

Either way, I’m going back! That steak sandwich is calling my name.

Madison’s new trash system has already failed

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Madison’s new trash system, the one with the ginormous trash cans, will fail before Winter’s end, less than a year after starting this venture. What a waste of taxpayer’s money.

Why it will fail

The trash cans need to be on semi-flat surface, and as it is, they have a hard enough time staying upright on a relatively flat grass surface. What happens when it snows? What happens when there’s so much snow the only place to put them is on the sidewalks or on the road. Either of those of places are going to anger a lot people. I also think they’re ugly as hell. People typically put out their in the morning and then leave for work, so the streets are lined with these ugly trash cans.

I drive down Raymond Road to and from work, and it’s unbelievable to see the number of trash cans, let alone how disturbing it is to see a large percentage of them knocked over. Last week, there were a handful of them knocked over in front of an apartment complex which were blocking an entire lane of traffic. This was just up the street from Raymond and McKenna.

So, who came up this bonehead plan anyway? I’m guessing the same bonehead that came up with Trolley idea.

Yahoo Account Deactivated, continued….

Monday, October 8th, 2007

I’ve been emailing Yahoo just about every day trying to get an answer as to why my account was disabled, and I finally have a vague idea as why it was deactivated. I have a guilty pleasure. I visit omg.yahoo.com. I, like many other people, post comments. There is a message that says…”Comments that violate our Terms of Service, including spam, hateful or obscene messages, may result in the loss of your Yahoo! ID.“, but that’s pretty vague.

My latest response from Yahoo….
