Fix Midtown Road
Just another year where the City of Madison does nothing…
I emailed Mayor Paul Soglin last week, who I just voted for, and his office just forwarded it on to City of Madison Engineer, Rob Phillips. I’ve gotten emails from Rob about this in the past, and I pretty much get the same message every single time…
Thank you for contacting us in regards to the condition of Mid Town Road. The project on Mid Town Rd is complicated by the fact that the right of way is half within the City of Madison and half in the Town of Verona. We are trying to bring the entire right of way into the City so we can do a good project that will last many years and serve us well. We are working hard to reach an agreement with Verona to do that. If that becomes impossible this year, we will have to consider other options for temporary patching. Unfortunately, the project can’t happen until this fall. I have copied the Town of Verona so that they are aware of your concerns as well.

A friend of mine got the following email…
Midtown Rd is split between the City of Madison and the Town of Verona. The road needs to be repaved. However, the Town refuses to pay for the resurfacing of its side of the road and it would not be fair to the taxpayers of the City of Madison to have to pay the entire cost of the project.
The Streets Division does send out crews to fill potholes and make minor repairs on our side of the road, but we are not responsible for the entire road.

The City of Madison and the Town of Verona were supposed to have met last September, but it’s pretty obvious they either didn’t meet, or they accomplished absolutely nothing. It’s time for the City of Madison to fix their portion of the road, or face having to deal with some rowdy residents.
