Megan’s of Verona

My wife, sister-in-law, and I thought we’d try Megan’s of Verona this past Saturday night. We’d driven by this place many times and were very curious if it was any good. We walked in and the first thing I noticed is it wasn’t very busy at all. The place looked very nice. They had a kids play room, and another room for private parties. The host welcomed us and seemed like a very nice person. He showed us the toppings buffet for ice cream, which looked good, and a taco buffet, which didn’t look so hot, but I couldn’t see the food since it was covered.

We sat down and started looking over our menus. The menu had such a wide variety of items, it was hard to tell if they were good at anything. I really didn’t know what to get, so I asked the waitress what was good. She hesitated, as if she hadn’t tried anything on the menu, and said she liked the burrito. I took her advice and tried the chicken burrito.

My wife went up to the salad bar, and what she came back with looked good and fresh. I tried a few croutons, and they were delicious. She had ordered the Big Boy Hot Dog meal, and for whatever reason, they brought her a chilli dog. I tried it, and it had a funky taste to it.

My burrito was better than the hotdog, but not by much. I don’t know how to explain it, but the inside of the burrito was mush, and the tortilla was hard and cracking.

Long story short, this restaurant discovery was a bust. I believe our host was the owner, and he seemed like a really nice person, but I’m afraid if this business doesn’t change quickly, it’s destined for failure. The place looks nice, but the food wasn’t so hot. I’d personally rather eat great food in a dump. Either way, I wish them the very best of luck.

Our Megan’s experience did spark a good conversation about what kind of restaurant we would have, if any of us were to start our own restaurant. We all had some great ideas, but we eventually realized we like our evenings and weekends too much to enter the restaurant biz.
