Bette Jo Farrey, 63, of Madison, formerly of Benton, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2009, at her home surrounded by family. Bette courageously battled breast cancer for over 11 years. Bette was born on July 12, 1945, at the Hazel Green Hospital in Hazel Green, the daughter of Joseph H. and Doris (McNett) Dawson. She was raised in rural Cuba City and graduated in 1963 from the Cuba City High School. Continuing her education, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. Bette married in 1968 and is survived by her life partner, Thomas R. “Butch” Farrey. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2008. She was blessed with two children, Brettson Thomas (Melissa) Farrey of Madison and Wendy Jo (Jeff) Hansing, of Milton. She also is survived by a sister, Judy (Bill) Behnke of Galena, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Tyler, age 12, Ethan, age 10, Ashley, age nine, and Zach, age seven, who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Although there were tears and disappointments along the way, Bette maintained a positive outlook on life. She fought her battle with dignity and taught everyone around her the meaning of hope and strength. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Benton with Pastor Rodney Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Cuba City at a later date. The family wishes to thank Gilda’s Club, UW Cancer Center and the Fitchburg Hospice Care Center for their compassionate support and care during Bette’s end of life journey.

The Casey Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Benton is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.caseyfuneralhome.net

If I were Ted Thompson, I would have drafted…

April 30th, 2009 No comments

1. DT BJ Raji. Michael Crabtree would be very tempting, but the Packers are stacked at wide receiver, and Raji is a terrific value.

2. OLB Everette Brown. I wouldn’t have traded up for Matthews. Sintim and Barwin are also options here.

3. OLB Michael Johnson. I would have traded up a few spots to grab a pass rusher.

3. Traded to Bengals to move up in 3rd round.

4. DT Sammie Lee Hill. A big fast DT to help clog the middle.

5. FB Quinn Johnson. Arguably the best fullback in the draft. Tough football player.

5. OT Jamon Meridith. A great value and eventual starter on the o-line.

6. DE Jarius Wynn. This guy has potential, and that’s what you look for in the later rounds.

7. CB Mike Mickens. He led the nation in interceptions last season. Very fast, and a great value in the 7th round.

2009 NFL Mock Draft: First Round

April 15th, 2009 No comments

I’m thinking the Broncos are going to trade up with the either the Jaguars or the Packers at #8 or #9 to nab Mark Sanchez. I’d really like the Packers get Orakpo, but I just don’t see it happening. Unless Maybin or another decent pass rusher falls to the Bills, I think they’ll pull the trigger on Andre Smith. I think the Patriots reach a little for Larry English, and the same goes for the Titans grabbing Evander Hood.

1. Lions – Matthew Stafford
2. Rams – Jason Smith
3. Chiefs – Aaron Curry
4. Seahawks – Eugene Monroe
5. Browns – Brian Orakpo
6. Bengals – Michael Crabtree
7. Raiders – Jeremy Maclin
8. Broncos(traded #12 to Jaguars) – Mark Sanchez
9. Packers – B.J. Raji
10. 49ers – Aaron Maybin
11. Bills – Andre Smith
12. Jaguars(traded #8 to Broncos) – Malcolm Jenkins
13. Redskins – Everette Brown
14. Saints – Chris Wells
15. Texans – Clay Matthews
16. Chargers – Michael Oher
17. Jets – Percy Harvin
18. Broncos – Tyson Jackson
19. Buccaneers – Josh Freeman
20. Lions – Eben Britton
21. Eagles – Brandon Pettigrew
22. Vikings – Vontae Davis
23. Patriots – Larry English
24. Falcons – Peria Jerry
25. Dolphins – Rey Maualuga
26. Ravens – Darius Heyward-Bey
27. Colts – Kenny Britt
28. Eagles – William Beatty
29. Giants – Brian Cushing
30. Titans – Evander Hood
31. Cardinals – Knowshon Moreno
32. Steelers – Duke Robinson

Gmail Problems

April 10th, 2009 No comments

I’m not sure what is going on with Gmail this morning, but I can’t login with the “Newer Version”. I keep getting the following error….

gmail-error

I googled the error and it eventually brought me to the following page…

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=99541

According to Google, this is the cause:

A flaky or unstable network connection may be temporarily preventing all of Gmail’s features from loading completely. In most cases, most of Gmail will work correctly, and you’ll be able to use it as usual

If I use Firefox 3.0.8, I get the error. If I use Safar 3.2.1, I don’t get an error, which leads me to believe it’s not actually a network issue. It’s either an issue with Gmail’s code base or an issue with Firefox. I’m thinking it’s an issue with Gmail since I haven’t upgraded Firefox since yesterday. For whatever reason, Firefox and Gmail aren’t playing nice together.

Matthew Stafford and Jason Isbell are twins

April 3rd, 2009 No comments

They’re not really twins, but damn they look like brothers. For those of you who don’t know who they are, Stafford is QB from Georgia who might possibly be getting picked number one overall, and Jason Isbell is a musician who used to play with the Drive-By Truckers.

It’s a tough time to sell, but my wife and I have decided to sell the condo. We put it on the market about a year and decided we wanted to stay, but we’ve recently decided we just really want a house. For more details visit our website.
