Guilty Pleasure: Bad Girls Club

January 19th, 2009 No comments

I’m almost embarrassed to write this, but I have to admit, I’ve been sucked into the world of reality TV in the form of the “Bad Girls Club“. It’s the typical reality show, except they take a group of girls with questionable backgrounds, thrown them into the house together, and then they just add the final ingredient. Alcohol! I think more than anything, I love to see a good train wreck, and this train was off the tracks before the show even began.

The Girls:

Aliea

Aliea is just your typical whiny nerd with zero self-esteem that dates men old enough to be her father since she didn’t have a dad when she grew up.  She is one of the most hated girls on the show. She’s an instigator, and someone should have kicked her ass by this point of the show.

Amber B.

She’s your typical dumb blonde with fried hair. She seems nice, but she’s made it clear she only dates white people, she’d rather be pretty than smart, she’s psycho jealous when it comes to relationships, and she likes guys who are complete meatheads.

Amber M.

I loved this girl. She was down to Earth, but she was one of the few girls on the show that would actually stick up for herself. Most of the other girls just talked shit. Maybe it’s because she’s from the Midwest or something, but I totally relate to her.

Kayla

She’s the token black woman with a bad temper; it seems every reality show has one these days. Either way, she talked major shit, but didn’t/couldn’t back it up. She would threaten her roommates, but would never do anything. She got into a fight with Amber M, probably the smallest girl amongst the bunch, and Kayla looked pathetic. She’ll spend most of her life in prison.

Sarah

She’s from Milwaukee, WI, which made her one of my favorites immediately. She wasn’t really a bad girl at all. Sarah was more like the fun girl. She liked to party and be naked, but didn’t hook up with anyone and seemed to be the voice of reason. The one thing that bothered me about Sarah is she said she has done it all in Wisconsin and was looking to move on. The fact is, she hasn’t done much of anything, except party. I think she’d make a great drinking buddy.

Tiffany

She seems like a good girl, but she has a nasty, nasty temper with a really long fuse, and she cheated on her boyfriend back home while on the show. I personally would have liked to see Tiffany kick the living crap out of Kayla and/or Boston. Also, I never understood why she had a Dodge Ram logo tattoo on her arm.

Whitney

AKA “Boston”. She is easily the second most annoying girl on the show. She’s as dumb as a box of rocks and makes constant references to Boston like, “This how we do things in Boston”, “This is how we role in Boston, “This how I’m an idiot in Bost”…blah, blah blah! I’m thinking the good people in Boston were highly embarrassed of her stupidity. Either way, she is total trailer trash and I think just about everyone will be glad to see her go back to Booostun.

Seriously, why do I watch this show?

Barry Alvarez is not worth $750,000 a year

January 13th, 2009 No comments

Barry Alvarez is WAY overpaid. Yes, the Badgers are typically competitive, but by no means are they one of the best in the country, and there is no reason Barry should be the third highest athletic director in the country. I think it’s time to cut Alvarez loose and find a much more affordable and qualified candidate for the job. I appreciate the fact Alvarez brought the football program back to life, but there is no way he’s deserving of $750,000 per year as an athletic director. I say promote Vince Sweeney to athletic director. Sweeney is currently listed on UW website as Senior Associate AD for External Relations. Hell, what’s Al Toon doing these days?

Baggot: Is Alvarez worth $750,000 a year?

Overture Center Needs an Overhaul

January 8th, 2009 No comments

overture-center

I was thinking about the Overture Center last night in lieu of trying to give itself to the city for a buck. And who says you can’t get much for a buck these days? They’d literally be giving itself to the city, but they’d also be giving the city a large debt, which would eventually need to be paid off by the tax payer. I think it’s safe to say the taxpayer would be livid about bailing out a business for its failures. Don’t we pay enough taxes already?

Before I go any further I just want to say, I’m a huge fan of the Overture Center. I go to many shows there each and every year. It’s an absolutely gorgeous facility, but did Madison really need a “world class” facility? Of course not. Madison needed something better than the Civic Center, but maybe updating the current facilities would have been a better option. Either way, the facility has been built and there’s now a huge debt in the midst of a recession, so now what?

If I were to buy the facility, here’s what I’d do:

Overture Board. I’d first and foremost do away with the Overture Board. I have nothing against anyone on the board, but like the Green Bay Packers defensive coaching staff, it’s time for a change. They need to inject some youth into the board with business-minded individuals who have a love of the arts.

Better Programming. There is a lot of great acts coming to the Overture Center, but there could be a lot more. That place should be booked pretty much every night of the week. The programming should appeal to a wider demographic, not just old rich white people. Get edgier. For example: If you’re going to book comedians, don’t play it safe with performers like Bill Cosby and Jerry Seinfeld. How about someone like Dane Cook or Bill Mahr? No more Nylons, Four Bitchin Babes, or Pink Floyd tribute bands. I’d bring back the Isthmus Jazz Festival, Madison Blues Festival, and probably create a few more music/art festivals to the Overture. Wisconsin Film Festival would be another one.

Promoters. I would talk to all of the major promoters in town and see what they can do for me. I’d get a wider variety of artists in all of the venues within Overture’s facility, in particular, the Capital Theater. Provide some competition for the Oprheum, Barrymore, and the Majestic.

Union. I would get rid of the union and trim any fat needed to allow for better overhead. In this day and age, there is no need for a union. If the workers don’t like it, they can walk…..buh-bye!

Sell the Organ. The organ is super cool, but is it necessary? I’ve heard it many times, and each time I’m anticipating being blown away, and I’m not. The only person that’s blown away by the organ is probably the person that gets to play it.

Naming Rights. I actually despise it when businesses sell the naming rights to their facility, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I guarantee there’s a business out there with a ton of money willing to pay top dollar to slap their name on the building. Sign a business to a 10-15 year contract, pay off some debt, and be done with it.

Alcohol. I would allow alcohol in the venues, depending upon the type of show. If the Capital Theater is going to have a blues or rock act, sell booze. Madisonians love to sit down, listen to music, and drink some alcohol….in that order.

Sponsors. I say get some big name sponsors to put their name all over the facility, but in a tasteful manner. I wouldn’t want to the Overture Center to turn into a sponsor driven facility like the Kohl Center, but more revenue is needed.

It’s time to put egos aside, and come up with some new and innovative ideas. It’s time for change. The current formula isn’t working. Good luck!

Taylor Swift is a terrible singer

January 7th, 2009 No comments

I’ve been debating whether I should post something about this for a while now. I hate to come off as being mean, especially since Taylor Swift seems like a sweet person, but seriously, how can someone be this popular, and sing so badly? She is so out of key, her voice made my border collie tuck tail and run into the other room. Can’t say I didn’t warn you….

YouTube Preview Image

I thought I’d update this since she just sucked horrible at the Grammys….

NOTE: I originally posted her Grammy performance here, but the Grammys took it offline after one day. I’m sure Taylor Swift’s management wanted that performance erased from history.

Taylor Swift and the Grammys: Is that all there is?

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences would like to leave its television audience with the impression that Taylor Swift made the best album of the last year, “Fearless,” by awarding her its most prestigious prize. But what many people who watched the show are talking about Monday is not the “artistic achievement” of that album, to use the academy hyperbole, but the inability of Taylor Swift to sing on key. She was flatter than a pancake in her frankly embarrassing duet with Stevie Nicks.

Police shoot pinned-down man in the back

January 6th, 2009 No comments

This is one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen done by a police officer. There was no need to pull out a weapon on someone that is pinned to the ground, stand up, and then shoot the person in the back. That officer deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison. I’m sure the other prison inmates would love to get a hold of him.

BART appeals for calm as footage shows shooting

BART is asking for the public to remain calm while this cop is on administrative leave. That cop should be in jail pending a trial! Do your job and the public will remain calm. Don’t do your jobs, and I’d imagine you’ll see people riot. I reccommend you do your job, and do it fast.

Too late….
