My Weekend
My girlfriend, Melissa, and I went to Galena, Ill. bumming around, and then we headed to Dubuque, IA to pick up a bass I was having worked on at Rondinelli Music/Audio.
I used to live in Galena about 10-12 years ago, so I know the town pretty well. Shops are always coming and going in that town, but there’s always the mainstay attractions. We strolled up and down Main Street hitting a few shops. We ate lunch at Benjamin’s, which was terrible. How can a restaurant screw up a pizza and a chicken parmesean sandwich? Neither were bad, but neither had any taste. If I’m spending $10 for a sandwich at lunchtime, it should have some taste, right?
The highlight of Galena was stopping in at the Great American Popcorn Company. Every time I go in this place, there’s a guy behind the counter offering me sweets. Who wouldn’t like that? This time he offered us cinnamon toast popcorn. Yummy!
We had to be at Rondinelli’s by 4:00pm, so we left Galena around 3:30. We spent a few hours there chatting with the owner, my ex-boss, George. We did a wonderful job refretting my bass, and the pickups, which they had rewound by Lindy Fralin, sounded amazing.
We got back into Madison and were hungry, and we had the inkling for a movie. We stopped by Star Theaters and saw that the Chronicles of Narnia was playing at 9:30. We ran to Marimar for Mexican food, and then proceeded to the movie.
The movie was great! We walked out of the theater at around midnight, and there was this guy looking in the window of the car parked next to us. As we approached, he quickly started walking away. He proceeded to the other side of the parking lot, so we thought we’d circle around to see what he was up too. As we passed him, he turned around and headed back toward the car. I went into the theater and told them what was going on, and they had the on-site officer go have a chat with him.
It was time to go home and crash.
